The construction of Shenzhen Bay Highway Bridge was officially started in January 2004. It is a single tower single cable plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge and two-way six lane expressway. The starting point is at Ao Hom Shek, Yuen Long District, Hong Kong, and the ending point is at the port area of Shenzhen Bay port at dongjiaotou, Nanshan District, Shenzhen. The bridge is 5,545 meters long, and the Shenzhen section is about 2,040 meters long. The Hong Kong section of the bridge is about 3,505 meters long. The designed driving speed is 100 km / h,It is the bridge with the highest speed limit in Hong Kong. The total width of the bridge is 38.6 meters. It is a three lane two-way vehicle with a design life of 120 years and a total investment of about HK $902 million. With 457 piles and 12 pairs of stay cables, the bridge is the only inclined single tower single cable deck bridge in China. After the completion of the bridge, it will take only 10 to 15 minutes to travel between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
For the design and development of SHM system, a detailed 3-D finite element model of the whole bridge is established to design an efficient and effective instrument installation plan. The SHM system of Shenzhen Bay Highway Bridge adopts SmartSolo data recorder and various scientific research grade sensors. Specifically, we have set up 10 monitoring points for Shenzhen Bay Highway Bridge. The instruments installed at each monitoring point include an M8000 data recorder, two laser displacement sensors (Shanghai Tonghe th-l40) for measuring the movable lifting span, Water Level 400 sensor for real-time monitoring the distance between bridge and water surface, geokon 4427 vibrating wire strain gauge and Honeywell sndh-h3l-g01 speed sensor.
